The foundation of this monument was laid by Atatürk on 30 August 1924 in Zafertepe and according to its meaning and importance he said his historical words: ”There is no doubt that the foundation of the new Turkish Government, the young Turkish Republic has been reinforced here. Its eternal life has been celebrated there. The bloods of Turkish people shed in this area, the souls of the martyrs flying in this sky are the eternal guardians of our Government and Republic. The foundation we laid here, “ Memorial of Martyr Soldier” will represent these souls along with their veteran friends, and the self-sacrificing and hero Turkish Nation. It will remind the volume of the fever, cold steel, courage, power and ambition Turkish people had on 30 August to those who long to possess this unique Turkish Nation.”
