The President of the National Commission of Unesco Prof. Dr. Öcal OĞUZ’s Visit To Governor Nayır

Having came to Kütahya to attend a panel held at Dumlupınar University, the Chairman of the National Commission of UNESCO Prof. Dr. Öcal Oğuz paid a visit to the Governor Ahmet Hamdi Nayir.

The members of the Specialized Commission of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage; Assoc. Dr. Evrim Ölçer Özünel, Dr. Selcan Gürçayır Teke and the Secretary-General of Zafer Development Agency Esteemed Yusuf Balcı, the Chairman of Project Development and Implementation Unit İskender Cem Leblebici, Lecturer of Dumlupınar University Asst. Prof. Dr. Kadir Güler and Expert Hacer Eriş  attended the courtesy visit made to the Governor Nayir’s Office.

The Governor Ahmet Hamdi Nayir thanked the President of the National Commission of UNESCO Prof. Dr. Öcal Oğuz and the members of the Specialized Commission of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage for their courtesy and gave information about the works of Creative Cities Network of Kütahya. Governor Nayir said,” We are making effort to become the second city after Gaziantep in UNESCO’s structuring. We are trying to activate the dynamics of the city through our municipality, university, Kütahya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Zafer Development Agency, our Chamber of Craftsmen of Çini. It is an important value both for our city and country. If we become successful through this, the reflection of it on our citizens will make us more hopeful. Çini has become a constructive aspect for our unity and integrity in these days our country needs unity and integrity the most.

The President of the National Commission of UNESCO Prof. Dr. Öcal Oğuz remarked that he considered the works successful and said, “A professional team was formed in Kütahya, they have been working very well. The process of preparation, experience and background about the files, contacts with the international community are going great. There is a really successful file preparation process. The final decision is up to the Specialized Commission of UNESCO indeed but I see that Kütahya is having a good preparation process and I am very glad about it. Creative Cities Network is a program with many components; NGOs, governments, local administrations, private sectors. It is very good that it brings all of them together. The application in the fields of folk dances and crafts, and tile’s being registered in the intangible cultural heritage list make a start that may have positive results in many ways.
